So. Very. Soft.

babyclothsLately, I’ve been scouring local thrift stores for items that I can use in a craft show display booth, and I came upon a like-new set of white king-sized sheets in a sateen weave (read “butter soft”). I need large white swaths of fabric just like this, so I was elated with my new find… and once I got home, my attention turned to the pillowcases that came with the set.

Hmm. Soft. Pillowcases. I went through some of the things I could make (skirt? tea towels? bag?), but with the softness, I kept coming back to some kind of baby item. Now when I had Sluggo- bless everybody’s hearts- I received more blankets than I knew what to do with. So I thought for the pillowcases, it may be more useful for my pregnant peeps to give them burp cloths. God knows I needed them. And for something that you have draped over your shoulder- every waking moment- for months, it couldn’t hurt for those burp cloths to have a little style, right?

I’m also just thrilled at the sheer economy of this project. The retro square stamps were on sale for $0.29 each, the pillowcases were essentially free (each king pillowcase made a set of two cloths), I used a bamboo batting that I had left over from another project to make the cloths more absorbent… but look how cute!

At some point in the near future, I may put together a tutorial for these. If you’re interested in one, let me know!
