A Utilitarian State of Mind

Sorry. I know I’ve been neglecting my blog lately. The thing about it is, I figure a blog is a good place to talk about sources of inspiration, objects of desire, finished projects, new prints or patterns or colors. Like that. Where lately I’ve been a more utilitarian state of mind. I haven’t been inspired to talk about anything, because I haven’t been on the lookout for anything. I haven’t been reading my blogs (so sad) or even opening emails from Anthropologie and Ikea. I’ve been focused.

There’s been the prep for Crafty Bastards (October 3rd! Adams Morgan in DC! Bring your friends!), where I made out kind of a work schedule for the next month, and I’m pretty well sticking to it. It’s a lot of work! Below are some photos of my studio. For the last couple of weeks, fabric has been draped all over the studio, and also over our doors, on our beds, over the stair railings and our shower rod! My dining room has been converted into an ironing and sewing area. Crafty Bastards has taken over our house! I’ve been trying to make sure that I still have time to spend with the Sluggo, so I’ve been waiting to work until after he goes to sleep at night. It was a good rule to make, and possibly the only way to make sure that this craft show has not completely taken over my life!

Then there have been more ongoing ink problems (It’s still molding! Rats!) that I’ve been trying to address. I’m looking at other inks, but I’m having a hard time finding an ink suitable for block printing that I can also honestly call environmentally friendly. Other inks have formaldehyde or ammonium hydroxide, or they’re not thick enough, or… I had even considered getting a refridgerator for my studio for the inks, if I weren’t having trouble with color consistency too. Ugh!

Bear with me. Hopefully I’ll be back in a few weeks!

Everything looks great! Wish I was close enough to come. I haven’t had a chance to print much lately. I’m really missing it.

    Dear Jenny,

I found you by hitting “shop local” one day on etsy. I ,too, am excited to go to the Crafty Bastards show, but only as a shopper, not an exhibitor. I look forward to seeing your work in person. Love the drum shade!
